Wedding Photography – Inspiration shoot with Bash!

I met my buddy Jessica from Bash Event Planning last year. She needed some portraits and we working on those, creating some really sweet shots for her website. She and I have a lot of similar ideas about what looks good when designing a “look” for weddings. So we put our heads together along with some other really talented wedding professionals (listed below) in the area and came up with this totally fun wedding inspiration shoot. Special thanks to The Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden for letting us use their venue, it’s suc a beautiful space. Jessica’s inspiration for this particular set up was “Garden Party Glamour”. Enjoy the photos and I hope they will inspire you in your wedding planning. Oh, one more thing… Our adorable couple are truly in love, they were married a few years ago and have a lovely little family started.

There is nothing I love more than photographing families! The Kiley family was no exception. I visited them at home when all the kids and grandkids were in town and it was whirlwind of fun and excitement just before the holiday. Luckily, Jim and Diane have a beautiful back yard for portraits, and some really adorable grandchildren!

This is my favorite photo of the year; it reminds me of childhood in the best way.

Well, another year has come and gone, and what a year it was! 2011 was full of ups and downs like any other year, but being a photographer, I tend to look back on each year in visual terms rather than a simple retrospective weighing of good and bad. One thing is for sure: 2011 was a great year for pictures! We have made lots of new friends & clients since January, and maintained many of our beloved long-standing relationships with families and individuals who came back once (or twice) again to have updated portraits taken. In picking my 50 favorite images from 2011 (because I, too, am a sucker for year-end lists), I was reminded of how much love there is in my life and in the lives of those I am lucky enough to surround myself with. My favorite photo of the year is above, and while it may initially just look like a boy in a tree, to me it means so much more: it shows the curiosity & possibility of childhood, and evokes the spirit of youthful adventure in a simple expression. So, without further ado, my 49 other favorite images of 2011, in no particular order…I sincerely hope you enjoy my selections as much as I do. Here’s to a 2012 that’s as full of fantastic photographic memories as its predecessor!

I just love looking at these beautiful people! Their smiles light up a room. A few weeks ago I popped into Krystal and Matt’s lovely home in SE Portland for a portrait session. We always love getting to know new clients, and the Matthews family is no exception. This fantastic foursome recently met us downtown at our Ash St. studio for a family portrait session. Mom and dad were so excited to have updated photos taken of their two beautiful little girls, who really took to the camera and brought a lot of great energy to the studio. The family particularly needed new portraits taken for the holidays, so we got plenty of shots for them to choose from for this year’s Christmas cards. Brad & Adrian are a perfect pair; the main thing we noticed during our time together was how in sync they are as a couple, how lovingly they interact and how much obvious respect and admiration they have for each other. They’re just so sweet! We met Brad first, as he was the lucky winner of our drawing at October’s LGBTQ Expo for a free portrait session. The couple just got engaged and are planning their wedding sometime in 2013. Brad & Adrian joined us at Laurelhurst Park in SE Portland on a beautiful, crisp fall morning recently to have their portraits taken, and the setting could not have been more perfect for what they had in mind. We’re so happy for Brad and Adrian and wish them only the best in their life together.

It’s no secret by this point how much we love and appreciate the wonderful Iversen family. Daniel & Beth are the masterminds behind the much-beloved Portland fitness powerhouse Adventure Boot Camp for Women. They’ve become so much more than cherished owners of a local small business, though…we’re lucky enough to call them friends as well as clients. The Iversens’ adorable children, strapping young lad J & energetic little sis R, are simply too cute for words, and as both the family’s photographer and friend, I have been lucky enough to watch their precious little ones grow from babies to toddlers and beyond. Daniel & Beth really prioritize having regular family portraits taken. Like many proud parents, they value tremendously the visual growth chart created by annual portraits of their kids from the very beginning. We’re so thrilled to be invited back yet again to capture the moments year after year that the Iversen family will look back on together for decades to come.
