Outfit Inspiration for your portrait session!

Posted by Rosemary Ragusa on October 30th, 2013

At Rosemary Ragusa Photography we try to regularly write up posts on our website that are both informative and fun! So, we’ve put together a few little outfit ideas here based on some of the best pantone colors inspired by this fall season. I don’t expect everyone to run right out and buy a new wardrobe for our next shoot, but you might find a few pieces or the color schemes helpful. The most important thing to remember is that a portrait session should be fun, your joy and creativity will show in your portraits if it is.

Courthouse Wedding Photography – Portland, OR

Posted by Rosemary Ragusa on October 25th, 2013

Courthouse-Wedding-Photography-PortlandSometimes, the most intimate weddings give me the best opportunities to capture truly candid moments between the couple and those closest to them.  Justin & Kim recently tied the knot at the Portland Courthouse downtown, and their lovely little gathering is a perfect example of such an opportunity.  Surrounded by their closest family members, including the groom’s darling daughter, Kim and Justin made it official without making the ceremony itself a big to-do. (That will happen soon enough, however, as the couple is planning a fun wedding reception up in Washington Park at the World Forestry Center this December.)

Fall-Wedding-Photography Kim got her gorgeous dress at Xtabay, our favorite Portland vintage boutique, and she was a vision of elegant simplicity. After the judge pronounced them husband and wife, Kim and Justin and I ran around downtown so I could shoot some fabulous photos of the happy newlyweds basking in the afterglow of their official union. It was a perfectly beautiful fall day, so we continued our adventure across the river on the Eastbank Esplanade to take full advantage of the glorious light.

Senior Grad Portraits – SE Portland, OR

Posted by Rosemary Ragusa on October 21st, 2013

This is Gabe, a senior at Franklin High whose mom (the fabulous Lori Sue Hoffman) is a friend of mine through our mutual work with Defunkt Theater, whose provocative productions always benefit greatly from Lori Sue’s uniquely conceived costume designs. Gabe needed senior pictures, and like many boys his age, getting spiffed up and posing for portraits doesn’t exactly whip up a flurry of excitement.  It’s always a challenge with teenagers (boys especially – no offense, fellas!) getting them to loosen up and relax enough to have fun; it’s really key to making the portrait session a great time rather than a begrudging obligation.  We ended up having a really fun shoot in SE Portland, as Gabe quickly shook off his initial shyness and became more comfortable as the session went along, finishing up on the Eastbank Esplanade.  (more…)

Family & Children’s Portraits on Sauvie Island – Portland, OR

Posted by Rosemary Ragusa on October 18th, 2013

Every year around this time, we head out to Kruger’s Farm on Sauvie Island to take advantage of the gorgeous fall scenery for a weekend of seasonal portrait sessions, with clients looking for everything from business headshots to extended family portraits. No matter the specifics of each portrait client, the magnificent backdrop of the farm in full fall glory never fails to deliver.  This year, we were lucky enough to photograph this little cutie and his fantastic mom Daryn.  I’ve known Daryn for a few years through Boot Camp, but this is the first time we’ve done a family portrait session together. I couldn’t be happier with the results – the photos are adorable!! child-photos

Professional Portraits — Sauvie Island, OR

Posted by Rosemary Ragusa on October 17th, 2013

Abby White is one of those people whose effervescent personality just puts you at ease immediately. It’s a rare quality, hard to put one’s finger on really, but I know it when I see it, and Abby’s got “It.” I recently met Abby out on Sauvie Island at Kruger’s Farm, where we took max advantage of the perfect fall day for a portrait session. Abby came to me looking for some new professional portraits, and she wanted to incorporate the natural beauty of Portland’s great outdoors into her shots.
