We love few things more about the Portland area than the month of October, which each year brings with it the promise of warm, sunny days & cool, crisp nights, trips to the pumpkin patch and the changing of the leaves. Our favorite place to spend a weekend day in October is Sauvie Island, where city folk like us retreat to enjoy the sudden arrival of fall in all its glory. We recently met up with the Buchman family at Kruger’s Farm Market, where the grounds offer the full splendid spectrum of fall scenery. Big brother J was jumping up and down with excitement at the prospect of seeing a big red tractor, so he was all smiles. Little sis B, fresh from napping in the car, needed a little more time to warm up to the camera, but once she got into her groove, she was a perfect little model. Mom and dad were wonderful subjects too, with the family exuding an unconditional love for each other that made the whole shoot so comfortable and relaxed. They even brought some locally brewed beer they’d picked up earlier in their day’s adventure to share with us after the portrait session, which of course we happily accepted. It is no secret how much love and appreciation I have for Daniel Iversen’s Adventure Boot Camp for Women. I seriously cannot emphasize enough just how incredibly effective and motivating my experience at Boot Camp has been and continues to be, so it was an absolute treat to take the company’s latest round of business portraits. The terrific trio responsible for whipping us Boot Campers into shape aren’t exactly rough on the eyes, but it’s the common thread of effervescent energy exuding from within all three of them that really makes their photos spark. One of my favorite people, Dr. Shani Fox, is Portland’s holistic physician extraordinaire, a natural primary care practitioner who specializes exclusively in post-treatment rehabilitation for cancer survivors. Shani’s gentle, skillful approach has earned her a sterling reputation for helping her patients who have already beaten cancer keep it from coming back. We became friends through our mutual Business Networking Int. group, and it has really been wonderful getting to know Shani on a personal level. So it was with great excitement that I agreed to meet Shani and, for the first time, her husband Gary, out on Sauvie Island earlier this fall to photograph the couple’s very own family portraits. The weather had finally turned on us after a threatening afternoon of intermittent drizzle and looming thunderheads, but the fantastic Foxes were such troopers even in the rain and cold, shrugging off the less-than-ideal conditions and letting me get a little creative with locations as I captured the lovely pair at their best: together. It was so great to finally meet Gary and also to see Shani in a whole new light, hand in hand with the love of her life. No wonder she’s so lovely!

We just love meeting new families and working with them to capture the unique dynamic of their particular family in action, as it happens. One such new family is the Colemans, a terrific trio if ever there was one. Proud parents Jeremy and Stephanie took advantage of our annual Sauvie Island portrait session special, meeting us out on the lush, pumpkin-spotted grounds at Kruger’s Farm with their precocious toddler in tow. Mom and dad were all laughs as Little J went wild with his big personality, dashing here and there and everywhere in between, grinning like a pro the whole time. We have had such a wonderful October here in the Portland area, with the weather turning crisp and cold and everyone feeling that certain fall fever in the air. Two such frolicsome Portlanders, the fun-loving mom & daughter pair Leilani & Siena, were really feeling the spirit of the season on Sauvie Island earlier this month, when we met at Kruger’s Farm for a photo shoot. Leilani is one of the forces of nature whipping ladies into serious shape at Portland Boot Camp, and it was so much fun to see Leilani and her gorgeous girl letting loose and feeling free to be themselves.
